a little beaver puts the girl to sleep

Macy came home the other day from school with "beaver". That night she fell asleep while snuggling Gregg after her bath.

That's how we usually know when Macy isn't feeling well. She wants to snuggle. We are very lucky that in five years, I can count on one hand how many times Macy has been to the dr for being sick. And good thing, because we know what she thinks of her pediatrician.

These two pictures are the only ones I have that Macy has ever just fallen asleep somewhere other than outside of her crib, car seat, stroller and big girl bed. And she had a "beaver" both times.

and recycling saves the rainforests

Gregg left the water running while brushing his teeth.

Macy (all exasperated): Daddy, you've got to turn off the water to save the polar bears!!

I have stunk to a new level

Yesterday, while wearing my Nike's in the backyard, I stepped in fresh doggie poo. I took them off in the garage with the intention of coming back out to clean them later. Then the rest of the day consisted of: feeding the kids lunch and dinner, showering, taking the kids to the park, reading blogs, talking on the phone, reading my People magazine, and taking a Benadryl so I could turn off this brain of mine to go to sleep.

I forgot about them until this morning when I went to put them on so I could get to my favorite Saturday morning class at the gym. Oh crap!

I was running late as usual so I ran back into the house to go put on my old pair of Nike's. Apparently, I Goodwilled them and forgot. So, back in the garage, I grabbed a utility knife and started scraping the doo out of the crevices and running the shoe under the garage sink. My shoes were all wet but I put them back on, flipped over my floor mat and drove off. On the way to the gym, I debated whether I should go into the class(because I was late) or just jump on an elliptical and cut my loss of missing the class.

Clearly, the Golden Rule was not in my thought process. Because I marched right in and did lunges, squats and leg lifts with the rest of 'em. Except I kept smelling that doo smell waft past me... I prayed the people around me had bad allergies and had taken some meds for the actual purpose it was intended for(unlike me, who needs one every.single.night in order to fall asleep).

After the class, I went to the sauna and took my shoes and socks off at the door. A small, 168 degree space with dog poo I knew was not a good combo. I have boundaries, people.

It's how I roll.

Relay for Life ~ April 23, 1999

I thought I could write a post about supporting the American Cancer Society and Relay for Life. But, the words are failing me now. At some point, I'd like to document how incredible my dad was through his cancer journey. Tonight is not the night because my heart is heavy. But that night in 1999 was a happy night for our family. Gregg and I were able to walk in honor of my dad and in memory of his mom, Mary Lynn, who passed away with cancer in 1993.
Please, I urge you to support the American Cancer Society any chance you get. There is no cure for cancer!!

I take good literature to heart

I love me some free therapy in the form of self-help books from the library. I recently finished this book where the on page 17, I read all I needed to make an impact on my life.

"...Make your bed everyday. ...By making your bed first thing in the morning, you will get your day off to the right start....You will find a sense of accomplishment greets you at the beginning of your day. Not only will you feel more organized, you will also have a sense of clarity every time you go in and out of your bedroom."

Ok, I needed to see that in writing to consider such an abstract concept. That is not how I roll. The bed might get made at some point of each day but considering the fact that I don't even bathe until naptime, some days it.just.doesn't.get.done. That's what doors are made for ~ to shut and forget about the mess inside.

Being the rule-follower that I AM NOT, I found myself a happy-medium that I can live with....

This technique has been working out really well!

and thank goodness or we'd be, you know, homeless

After watching an episode of Little Bill, where the daddies visited the classroom and shared about their occupations...

Gregg: Macy, what is your daddy's job?
M: You work at a store.
G: What is the name of the store?
M: Lowe's.
G: What do we sell at Lowe's?
M: Flowers, washing machines and refrigerators.
G: What does daddy do there?
M: Make money.

it was 1pm Vegas time

Last Saturday, we spent the afternoon at Lauryn's birthday party. Macy immediately saw the "craps" table and wanted to try her luck.

Then out came the glitter, in the form of glue.

There were celebrity impersonators everywhere!
The little one needs to work on her bluffing.

But I'd rather her be a good friend.

strawberries & cream

**Disclaimer...this post is full of pics and two video clips of Paige...It's how I'm rolling tonight.***

All last summer, Ana and I kept talking how were needed to take the kids to pick strawberries. Of course, every time we were set to go, the sign said, "all picked out".

Finally! The day had come!

Every time Paige ate a strawberry,
she's say, "um, yummy!"

The little ones spent more time eating than working.

The big girls worked hard!

Forget this! I'm off to Cracker Barrel!

goin' to the chapel (or maybe just a Walmart run)

A fine way to meet your new neighbors is to show up at their garage sale and take some stuff (junk) off their hands. And junk (and ghetto) is the what I thought of this roadster.

I tried to pull Macy aside and whisper to her, "now honey, it is missing a wheel so it might not be a good choice." In my eyes, it was broken and damaged. But for Macy, all she saw was the Dora the Explorer sticker smacked below the windshield and she fell in love with "the Dora bus".

Paige has since jacked the sticker off but if you zoom in you can see half of her eye left. But regardless, the bus remains "the Dora bus".

On this particular road trip, the Barbie posse is traveling to Bethlehem for Antonio and Luciana's wedding. And maybe a stop at Walmart because that is Antonio's favorite store.

Apparently, the van doubles as a cruise ship.
