I don't think there's anything wrong with Dr. Pepper for Christmas

Last Saturday, Macy and I had some girl time. I took her to the mall to run a few errands and then over to Target to let her pick out presents for McKenzy and Gregg.

While at the mall, we headed to Gymboree to check out the sale in-store, to Helzberg to visit Aunt Lindsey, and to Victoria's Secret to cash in a coupon.

VS sends these wonderful $10 any purchase coupons every so often. As I was looking through the panties, Macy kept saying those are ccccuuttteee to whatever I had my hands on. To busy her, I handed her as stack of four that I chose and told her to count them for me.

Five she says.

I told her, "girl, I need to send you back to kindergarten."

We don't count panties in kindergarten.

And for good reason.

When we got home, Gregg and Macy were off to Walmart to get my present.

They came home with something and went onto to wrap it. And then a couple of days later, a commercial came on and Macy said to Gregg that like the one we looked at for Mommy.

So, we'll see. I'll post what it was if I get it after Christmas.

And it wasn't a Dr. Pepper commercial.

Because a year later, that would still be A-OK with me.

and some of us have alot of meat

...And thank you for the brown bears, the black bears and the polar bears.
And thank you that we live far away from the polar bears because they like to eat meat.
And we have meat inside of us.
And thank you that we live in Lubbock, TX which is far away.
Amen.

After the prayer, Macy told me that polar bears eat meat because they aren't vegetarians.

this is what straight looks like

I took the girls for a hair trim the other day. And our new hair chick thought it's be fun to straighten Macy's hair.

And what's up with hair twists and bobby pins? Trust me, they were needed.

I never in my wildest dreams thought I'd have a child w/such curls but I do! And the longer her hair grows, the tighter the curls.

I love it how people ask me if I ever thought about letting her hair, you know, grow.

Yes, only for the past five and a half years!

But, with Macy's hair texture, it needs a nip every two months.

Don't question it. If you have ever seen/touched her hair in it's natural state, then you'd get it.

And I love how people ask if I ever try straightening her hair.

I mean really, how can I explain the above pictures to anyone?? Can't. And I really don't want to well-meaning intrusive strangers.

Pictures are really worth a thousand words.

But all Macy has ever asked for was hair to my shirt. And she has it!

we need a roadtrip to the Land of Enchantment

Macy has been learning about the Pilgrims and Indians this week. She had been sharing all kinds of tidbits with us.

The other day...
Macy: Daddy, the black birds they come here because the Indians tried to kill them. So they fly away. The Indians killed bears too.
Gregg: Macy, where did you learn that?
M: I learned it from Mrs. Hendrix. Mrs. Hendrix is very smart about Indians.

...This morning while I was doing her hair, she told me that she wants to be Pilgrim next Halloween.

...Tonight at dinner she prayed:

Thank you for my family.
Thank you for everything.
Thank you for the Indians.
Thank you for the Pilgrims.
Thank you for the Indian staying alive from the white man.
Amen.

New Mexico is only like 4hrs away and Meme has a cabin in Ruidoso. I'm thinking my girl needs to see that more than one Indian survived the white man!

don't kiss the baby

The girls go to church on Sunday nights for childcare while we have Life House. When I went to pick them up, I was told this story by one of the teachers...

We had Paige wrapped up in a blanket and she was pretending to be a baby. A little boy leaned over to kiss her and Macy got all upset and said, "you can't kiss her! Your are NOT in our family!"

Crazy Hair Day(s)

A couple of weeks ago, Macy's school had "Crazy Hair Day". If they brought a $1 to school (which went to some sort of fundraiser), then they could wear their hair crazy.

I asked Macy what she wanted to do with her hair and she said I just wear it how it is when I wake up.

And sadly, it was tame that morning.

This girl would be the perfect teenager of the '60's. Check out that volume!

And before I knew it, it was Crazy Hair Day again! It was free at school because it was one of the activities of Red Ribbon Week.

But this time Macy wanted her hair spray painted. So I was off to the party store for hair paint.
And the only two colors left marked down from Halloween was purple and black.

Um, purple!
And I'm glad that Gregg was home to fix her hair that morning.

And she chose her shirt on purpose.

She told me I just wear my purple shirt and my khaki pants. The shirt is the same color as my hair.

I wish everyone could've touched Macy's hair that day.

It felt like a Brillo pad.

Bless her heart.

I'm thinking she was the only one with a mortarboard

Friday was red and black day at Macy's school (go Tech!). Check!
It was Walk for Diabetes Day during PE (tennis shoes). Check!
And it was hat and sunglasses day for the end of Red Ribbon Week. Check!

As for the hat, Macy went to her hat dress-up drawer and choose her Pre-K graulation hat.

Because it was red.

Some days I just want to bottle up her innocence!

Knock, Knock

Macy: Knock, knock.
Gregg: Who's there?
Macy: Princess P.
Gregg: Princess P went on the toilet!

the girl, she was thinking way beyond her years

Macy was very proud of her dress that gathered at the top and made her look like a lady.

This one really had me trying to sprint for the camera...

While I was about to fix her hair, she was pulling at her neck singing, I'm an old womannnn.

I told her that some old woman is probably out there singing about being a kindergartner.

You're just 'akidding!

the gymnastics hiatus is over

Apparently Macy forgot the gymnastics dress-code. She was killin' me in these outfits she chose for her and Paigey to dress up in (she chose the hair bows for them as well).

After being out of gymnastics due to the move, Macy started back at gymnastics three weeks ago!

I always knew that as soon as Paigey turned three, I'd enroll her as well. At most gyms, they don't offer classes for little ones under 3 w/out parental involvement.

And trust me, I'm not paying good money to go flip Paigey around myself. I have to do that every time she's in a shopping cart.
And it's a beating.

But Jill found this place that has a two year old class that is not parent involved.

Sold to the toddler in the purple rain boots!

Paige and Kendyl are in the same class and it is the highlight of her week.
Seriously. Could they be any cuter?

Kendyl wearing the purple leotard is appropriate, while Macy squeezing herself into it makes us feel the need to reach for the Aleve.

And take the whole bottle.

home life and kindergarten curriculum collide

It was recently Career Week in Kindergarten.

And construction worker made the cut among drs, firemen, mailmen and policemen.

Guess whose Daddy loaded up a certain little girl's class with aprons (no vests), nametags, goggles and little hammers?!?

And when I first donned this look that I'm supposed to sleep in for the next two weeks, Macy informed me that I look like a construction worker.

I do what I can.

**Apparently I'm as erratic in my sleep as I can be in real life. After waking up three times last night with them off my head, on various ends of the bed, I'm thinking they are going onto the dressup drawers 'o hell. So look for them to resurface in a future blog**

Flashback Friday

Feb. 2004
Seeing Allie in Macy's old onesie made me miss my Baby Macy today.

Seeing Levi sitting up big in his sleeper made me miss my Baby Paige.

she found a rubber to bring to school

If nothing else, kindergarten alone could give me plenty to blog about.

This week is shape week. Each day Macy is to bring an object from home for the shape 'o the day.

Monday was circle, so I couldn't help myself from incorporating her wardrobe in the lesson.

And for her object, she brought a rubber, because the rubber part is a circle.

It sure is.

western day

Today was western day at Macy's school. It was also "white" day.

So trying to match her now one size too small boots (that she said still fit - I sent a spare set of shoes just in case) with white made my eczema flare up. I like to shake things up by having her look different than the old granola (aka boring) white shirt and jeans cowgirl sterotype.

All at the expense of my skin. It's no secret that I'm a bit neurotic.

It's been two weeks now of color days. Macy's class newsletter has been my fashion bible for her that I have obeyed religiously. And thank goodness the finale of colors ends tomorrow with pink.

We're covered there.

it's about time we broke out the china

I let Macy play with the china while I was unpacking it. It is probably the closest it will ever be to actually being used.

I never imagined the 1st meal served on it would consist of chips, pickles and toast...
